On April 7th, we commemorate the enduring legacy of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, who was devoted to nurturing and educating young people. As we reflect today, we renew our commitment to uphold his values and teachings, ensuring his vision for education continues to thrive.
Born in Reims, France, in 1651, St. John Baptist de La Salle was a figure of profound faith and foresight. He recognised education’s transformative power and was committed to providing children of all backgrounds with opportunities for growth. He founded the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers, which has become one of the most respected educational movements globally.
St. John Baptist de La Salle exemplified dedicated service and compassion, especially towards those facing hardship and poverty. He saw education as a powerful tool to empower individuals, tirelessly working to uplift young people and make a lasting difference in their lives.
Today, let us honour St. John Baptist de La Salle’s remarkable contributions and reflect on how we can emulate his spirit of generosity, humility, and unwavering devotion. Inspired by his example, let us dedicate ourselves to serving others, particularly the marginalised or disadvantaged.
With humility and reverence, we seek St. John Baptist de La Salle’s intercession, asking him to guide us on a path marked by faith, compassion, and zeal. May his life inspire us to be attentive to the needs of the vulnerable, using our gifts to enhance their lives. May he continue to motivate us as educators to instil Christian values and excellence in our students.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever.
