Our School had the privilege of welcoming Prof. Tony F. Chan, former president of HKUST and KAUST, for an engaging and thought-provoking Mathematics Talk.
Prof. Chan captivated our Math students by exploring the crucial role of STEM—especially mathematics—in our everyday lives and its vast applications across various industries. From finance and technology to healthcare and entertainment, he showcased how mathematics drives innovation, highlighting groundbreaking advancements like AI models (AlphaGo, AlphaFold) and tools such as ChatGPT.
Breaking the stereotype of math being abstract and solitary, Prof. Chanemphasized its collaborative, practical nature and its power to solve real-world problems in Finance, technology and healthcare discipline. He also shared invaluable guidance on pursuing studies and careers in mathematics, leaving students inspired and motivated to explore its endless possibilities.
